Android XR headsets for training programs

The newer headsets on Google’s platform: mixed reality by default through full-colour passthrough, built with the tools PTR already uses.

In a real room

Mixed reality by default

An Android XR headset keeps the real room in view and adds the scenario to it, with a virtual space a tap away.

Programs

Which programs run on it

Google names Unity, Unreal Engine, OpenXR and WebXR as the ways to build for Android XR; PTR builds in Unity, Unreal Engine and WebXR.

Custom mixed reality builds, and the engines PTR builds in

So a de-escalation scene at your real counter, a clinical conversation at a real bedside or an induction on the real floor is a custom build for this class, scoped with you at planning (Android XR for developers).

What it does in a real room

Google describes the headset class as able to "transport users to a fully-virtual space, or blend semi-immersive digital content with the user’s environment", so the same scenario runs with the room kept or replaced.

Mixed reality at PTR covers what the kept room adds to practice.

The fleet

What a fleet needs

An Android XR headset is an Android device, so the mobile device management an IT team already runs is the starting point.

Android device management, already in the building

Which manager, which accounts and how updates are held are the questions to settle before a pilot; headsets and equipment lists them, and governance covers where the data lives.

Who chooses it

Organisations standardised on Android and Google Workspace, and innovation leads who want mixed reality on a headset their IT team already knows how to manage.

What PTR ships

What PTR ships on it

A build for OpenXR or WebXR reaches the class without a rewrite, and a WebXR scene opens in the headset browser with no install.

Builds in Unity, Unreal Engine and WebXR

An XR fast build puts a working mixed reality scene in the room before production begins. The Vision Pro page covers the other headset built around mixed reality.

Questions

What do buyers ask about Android XR headsets?

Short answers, each with a link to the page that answers in full.

Which headsets run Android XR?

Google’s developer site describes XR headsets, wired XR glasses, and audio and display glasses as the device classes. PTR agrees suitable hardware with you when a session is planned; headsets and equipment covers the routes.

Does a Meta Quest build run on Android XR?

A build on OpenXR or WebXR is written to move between headset platforms; a build on a platform SDK is ported. Both are scoped in an XR fast build.

Can a Library title run on it?

The PTR VR Library titles ship on standalone Meta Quest and PICO headsets. An Android XR program is a custom build, and Meta Quest 3 is the ready-to-run route today.

Over the past six months, XRHealth Australia has worked closely with People Tech Revolution to co-design innovative immersive applications... supporting workplace mental health and recovery in the transport industry. Simon and his team have been exceptional collaborators: creative, responsive and genuinely committed to human-centred design. Their ability to understand clinical and operational needs and translate complex ideas into safe, realistic VR environments has made the partnership both productive and enjoyable. Together, we are developing practical, evidence-informed tools that build confidence, resilience and coping strategies through structured, real-world scenarios. I highly recommend People Tech Revolution as a trusted technology partner.

I don't think role plays will ever cut it again in this space. Participants are able to empathise and discuss the experiences... with detail that just wouldn't be possible without actually experiencing it themselves.
