Justice & Community Services

Justice and community services run on conversations that go wrong quietly. A young person who will not look up. A disclosure nobody was ready for. A doorstep that has to be recovered in the first thirty seconds. These are high-consequence conversations that are almost impossible to rehearse safely, because the only practice available is usually on a real person having a real bad day.

Key takeaway

This is a sector PTR is building for. The practice library below uses the same method as our work in education, health, government and workplace training.

A simulated outdoor community space in late afternoon, a shaded verandah and gum trees, where a mentor and a young man sit a little apart on the same step.

Scope of this work

PTR builds for justice and community services using the same method behind the Central Coast Council and Metro Trains programs: first-person perspective-taking and repeatable conversation practice. The clips below simulate the moments this work turns on: mediation, intake, disclosure, the doorstep and the counter. A first engagement here would start the same way those did, with a real setting, a real conversation and a facilitated debrief.

What practice looks like in justice and community services

The moments we build practice for in justice and community services.

Sitting with someone until the conversation is ready.
Mediation on country, at the pace it needs.
The young person who will not look up yet.
Intake, with the coat still on and the folder still closed.
The doorstep, and stepping back rather than forward.
The after-hours desk, and not reaching across it.
Papers squared, and the question not yet asked.
The circle, and what it takes to speak in one.
The visits room, seen from the chair you are waiting in.
The witness position, and the first question.
Related PTR work

This sector sits closest to our government and public-sector work, where the same frontline conversations appear at a counter, on a doorstep and in an interview room. As engagements land here, we will add them the same way as every other industry page: named, with the case study behind them linked in full.
