# VIVE and Varjo headsets for professional simulation

Standalone and PC-tethered headsets with colour passthrough and eye tracking, for the simulation a control room or a cockpit asks for.

In a real room

## When the simulation has to be exact

A procedure at a bench, a console under load, a vehicle on a road: the class of headset built for professional simulation.

A glow follows a hand across controls.

Virtual hands hold a wheel beside a road.

A resuscitation bay from the foot of the bed.

Programs

## Which programs run on it

A tethered headset lets a scenario carry the detail a PC can render, and the eye tracking a debrief can use.

A participant rehearses a procedure.

### Custom VR builds with a PC behind them

A custom build is scoped with you; the Library titles are built for standalone Meta Quest and PICO.

### What it does in a real room

HTC states "2448 x 2448 pixels per eye" for the [VIVE Focus Vision](https://business.vive.com/us/product/vive-focus-vision/), which runs standalone and streams PC content in DisplayPort mode. Varjo states "3840 x 3744 per eye resolution" and "Dual 20 megapixel cameras" for the [Varjo XR-4](https://varjo.com/products/xr-4/), built for "training and simulation across air, land, and sea".

[VR, AR or MR](https://peopletechrevolution.com/learn/xr/vr-vs-ar-vs-mr) sets out what the room in view changes.

The fleet

## What a fleet needs

A Varjo station is a Windows PC with an NVIDIA graphics card and a headset; a Focus Vision fleet runs standalone or tethered.

Testing a controller beside a switch.

### A PC per station, and batteries that swap

HTC states a "Removable, swappable battery with battery life of up to 2 hours" and hot-swap "for up to 20 minutes" on its reserve, and pairs the headset with VIVE Business+ device management. [ArborXR](https://arborxr.com/) manages HTC beside Meta and PICO. [Headsets and equipment](https://peopletechrevolution.com/training/headsets-and-equipment) lists the IT questions.

An incident controller waits for a decision.

### Who chooses it

Simulation centres, defence and transport trainers, mining and utilities with a control room to rehearse, and research groups that measure gaze.

[Mining and resources](https://peopletechrevolution.com/work/industries/mining-resources), [transport](https://peopletechrevolution.com/work/industries/transport-logistics) and [simulation leads](https://peopletechrevolution.com/training/for-clinical-educators-and-simulation-leads) describe the fit from their side.

What PTR ships

## What PTR ships on it

PTR builds VR, AR and MR in Unity and Unreal Engine, and a tethered headset is where the engines have the most room.

Inside a scenario, under pressure cues.

### Custom builds in Unity and Unreal Engine

An [XR fast build](https://peopletechrevolution.com/fast-builds/xr-ar-mr-vr-builds) blocks out the space at full scale, puts the people the build is for inside it, and comes back with a decision. ArborXR lists People Tech Revolution with device support for HTC, Meta and PICO.

Questions

## What do buyers ask about VIVE and Varjo?

Short answers, each with a link to the page that answers in full.

A learner moves inside a tracked space.

### Do we need a Varjo for a conversation scenario?

No headset of this class is needed for a conversation: the Library titles run on standalone [Meta Quest](https://peopletechrevolution.com/xr/devices/meta-quest-3) and [PICO](https://peopletechrevolution.com/xr/devices/pico). Varjo suits a scene where fine detail and exact gaze matter, a cockpit, a console, an instrument.

Forms arranged in depth, seen through the headset.

### Can the same build run standalone and tethered?

A Focus Vision runs a build standalone and streams a heavier one from a PC, so a program can start on the headset and grow into the PC version. [XR builds](https://peopletechrevolution.com/fast-builds/xr-ar-mr-vr-builds) covers how a build is scoped.

Standing in a scanned room.

### Who manages a tethered fleet?

A PC per station, a device manager for the headsets and a room booked around charging and swaps. [How a pilot runs](https://peopletechrevolution.com/training/how-a-pilot-runs) shows who does what on each side.

A facilitator and participant discuss a completed run.
