# Workplace and enterprise case studies

Inclusion training built around their own people and situations, then measured.

Three replies, and one to choose.

## The office moments people replay for days

An idea credited to the wrong person, a joke that landed badly, a meeting where one voice never got in.

Google, Metro Trains, Etihad Airways and Cornell University each brought PTR a version of those moments, and each got a program built from its own people's experience.

## VR DEI training

Four VR scenarios built from real incidents at Google, co-designed with its DEI team, and written up in a peer-reviewed CHI paper.

A first session on the open-plan floor.

### Two perspectives on one incident

PTR co-founder Leonie Sanderson co-designed the scenarios with Google's DEI volunteers, so trainees stand inside a difficult workplace situation from two sides.

In the [CHI 2024 study](https://peopletechrevolution.com/uploads/docs/people-tech-revolution-google-vr-inclusion-training-chi-2024.pdf), 91% of testers rated the scenarios realistic, and all but one rated the training better than Google's standard DEI training.

### Inside the Google scenarios

Feedback given mid-sentence, hand raised.

Metro Trains

## Gender equity in operational roles

Three VR workshops with Grit Leadership that put Metro Trains' leaders inside the bias its policies could not see.

### Head office, operational leaders and the depot

Metro Trains had used VR for technical training and wanted to know whether it could shift leadership mindsets about women in roles like train maintenance.

Three sessions, each for a different audience, used the Everyday Inclusion module to make systemic bias visible to the people who set the policy.

Etihad Airways

## Confronting bias in cabin crew culture

### Everyday Inclusion and Mind Shift, then a yarning circle

Cabin crew met unconscious bias and cultural misunderstanding in practice, then talked it through in a yarning circle led with Utano Global.

The pilot ran in an airport lounge on Meta Quest 3 headsets, with crew from across a multicultural workforce.

## Everyday Inclusion

The three-part module co-designed with Cornell University that Metro Trains and Etihad Airways later used.

A difficult conversation with a manager.

### The title the other programs stand on

Co-designed with Cornell University and diversity and inclusion expert Angela Winfield, the module explores unconscious bias, microaggressions and intersectionality from the seat of the person it happens to.

It is the same title later used with Metro Trains and Etihad Airways, and the lead title in the PTR VR Library.

## Where the practice goes next at work

The same method reaches the promotion conversation, the delegation that gets pushed back, and a reply chosen in a plain office.
