# Our values

Our values and mindsets: the standard a piece of work is held to, and how the team behaves while it gets there. They are the reason a client can trust what gets built with them.

Leonie Sanderson, PTR co-founder and Design and Engagement Director.

## The standard a piece of work is held to

Four values, four mindset traits. The values are the standard we hold a piece of work to; the mindset is how we behave while we get there.

They sit alongside the principles on our [About](https://peopletechrevolution.com/about) page: psychological safety designed in rather than bolted on, every scenario co-designed with the people who will use it, and human judgement kept human.

## Values that inspire change

The words that decide what gets built, how, and with whom.

Community. Building connections and collaboration. The co-design workshop is where it starts: your practitioners in the room, listened to, before anyone builds.

Excellence. Striving for the highest quality in all we do. Independent, peer-reviewed research examines the work; it is collected on [Research and evidence](https://peopletechrevolution.com/work/research-evidence).

Trust. Building reliable and transparent relationships. Informed consent, a pre-brief and a structured debrief sit inside any scenario that touches something painful.

Creativity. Encouraging original thinking. Carked It!, the card game from the founders' Ageing Revolution work, won a 2024 Australian Good Design Award for making conversations about death easier to have ([Good Design Australia](https://good-design.org/projects/carked-it-a-card-game-about-life-death-and-beyond/)).

### Collaboration is a thing you can watch happen

It shows up in what both sides are willing to put on the table before anyone commits to a build.

One problem, held between two people.

### One problem, put where both people can see it

The workshop is the value in practice. Your practitioners describe the situation as it really goes, PTR says what a build can and cannot do with it, and the scenario is written from what both sides agree is true.

Trust is the same habit later on: the informed-consent step, the pre-brief, and a debrief built into any scenario that touches something painful.

> "We began with a small team of former interns and people whose values align with ours. We've grown the team slowly over the past two years with a strong focus on diversity."

## Mindset to drive results

How the team behaves while the work gets done, on the days nobody is watching.

Curious. Always exploring and learning: a phone, a controller and a set of models on one table until the right format shows itself.

Empathic. Understanding and valuing diverse perspectives, starting with the person the headset goes on.

Collaborative. Working together to achieve common goals: the whiteboard, the sticky notes and everyone in the room.

Action-oriented. Turning ideas into something people can use: a rough build in someone's hands early, rather than a finished product they have never seen.

## Values in public

Community: PTR's CEO Simon Lowe has mentored around 30 game-design interns through SAE Institute's program, more than 10 of whom have moved into paid roles.

Creativity: Carked It!, from the founders' Ageing Revolution work, won a 2024 Australian Good Design Award for making conversations about death easier to have.

Excellence: peer-reviewed research examines PTR's work, collected on [Research and evidence](https://peopletechrevolution.com/work/research-evidence). Trust: lived experience treated as equal to professional expertise, set out on [Our approach](https://peopletechrevolution.com/about/approach).

## Values you can see in the room

Patience from a facilitator, courage from a learner and curiosity from a designer, in the rooms where the work happens.

Two people talk during an atrium headset trial.

Explaining the method to a room.

A clinician rehearses hand movements above a tray.

### The mindset that keeps the work honest

A build is only finished when the people it is about say it rings true, which means listening past the point where it is comfortable.

Two screens, one interaction.

### Rebuilt until it plays the way the room really goes

A designer and a developer adjust the same moment until it plays the way the practitioners described it. Then it goes back to those practitioners for another round, and the scene is only signed off when they say it rings true.
